Position: Hapless Intern, Improper Use of Magic Office
History:
Once upon a time, a pair of very blameless parents had a son. This was probably a mistake.
Kingsley Tobias Shacklebolt was born and raised in London. His parents, a Muggleborn wizard and witch, worked in Diagon Alley. Kingsley followed his mother around while she shelved books at Flourish and Blotts, quite accidentally absorbing a cosmopolitan view of the world as he eavesdropped on customers. His favorite time of year was late August, when hundreds of Hogwarts students rushed in to buy books. They gave him candies and told him about the magical school, so that by the time he was eleven it was all his parents could do to keep him from stealing a broom and taking off before the Hogwarts Express even arrived.
At Hogwarts Kingsley and Gryffindor House were introduced. If he wasn't quite up to the legendary Marauders, he was certainly behind more than his fair share of pranks and mischief. At the very least, he kept Argus Filch on his toes and made things interesting for the prefects. If not for his sixth and seventh years he might have continued his life on that irresponsible note. Two of his classmates, both Muggleborn, were killed in his last two years at Hogwarts -- events that left a strong impression on him. Although Kingsley was still very much the cheerful boy he had always been, he decided that he was going to be an Auror and fight for what was good and right.
Unfortunately he didn't have the NEWTs to become an Auror at all. Not to be deterred by such minor things, he wriggled his way into the Department of Magical Law Enforcement by getting himself recruited as an intern in the Improper Use of Magic office. He's eighteen years old, sure of himself, out to save the world, and not all that fond of paperwork. This could be bad.
Personality:
Jovial and good-natured, Kingsley makes friends easily and is hard to discourage. He also doesn't ever take "no" for an answer, so the best way to stop him is just to distract him with something bigger and better. He has big ambitions and a keen sense of right and wrong, but he has no concept of politics or of subtlety. Part of this has to do with his personality and part of it comes from the fact that he's so young. Kingsley is terribly naive. Despite the deaths of his classmates, he really does believe that bad things usually only happen to bad people. He is also inclined to trust people, at least so long as they don't try to pull him off what he perceives to be the moral high ground. Obviously he has a lot to learn. He just doesn't want to learn it.
